The best time to prepare your trip to China is three months before the scheduled departure time. Here are some links that offer cheaper fares.
Chinese visa
http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/
Link to the Chinese embassy, where you will find information about your visa. Note that you want to apply for a visitor visa, not a student visa, since we stay there for only a short time. A student visa is for those who would stay for half a year or longer, and it requries a lot more supporting documents, takes a lot longer to apply, and the fee scale is also different.
To get a Chinese visa, you must apply for it in person. Not all of us are in a city with a Chinese consulate. You can either drive to the nearest city that has one, or pay somebody to do it for you. It usually costs about $25-$30 for the service.
Chinese Currency
The Chinese currency is called "Renminbi", or People's Currency. Its basic unit is "yuan2", but local people usually call it "kuai4". It is somehow similar to in US we call a dollar "one buck." Below yuan is jiao, or mao as the locals call it, equivalent to a dime. Get yourselves familiar with the looks of RMB by check out the website here:http://www.chinatoday.com/fin/mon/
